bush gave a speech today that's getting quoted for him "strongly" attacking critics of the war in iraq. but, there's only one bit i care to cover here:
- "As our troops fight a ruthless enemy determined to destroy our way of life, they deserve to know that their elected leaders who voted to send them to war continue to stand behind them. Our troops deserve to know that this support will remain firm when the going gets tough. And our troops deserve to know that whatever our differences in Washington, our will is strong, our nation is united, and we will settle for nothing less than victory."
my thing is this: if our support has wavered (not that i personally ever showed any, mind you), should we be lying about it for the sake of the troops, you know, not fighting in front of the kids lest they think we might get divorced and all that? if we do not stand behind the troops and what they are doing still in iraq, is it not our responsibility to speak out, to voice our derision and question the will of the nation, the unity of it, and for that matter, what victory would even mean in the situation in which karl rove... um, bush had put us?
oh, one more thing:
- "Some have also argued that extremists have been strengthened by our actions in Iraq, claiming that our presence in that country has somehow caused or triggered the rage of radicals. I would remind them that we were not in Iraq on September the 11, 2001."
i would now call BULLSHIT on that one. perhaps we didn't have our numerous soldiers there, but our sanctions and our influence have been in that country for decades, and iraq is not the point there anyway. the points is that we are everywhere, influencing everything, meddling and destroying. that there have not been more attacks from more directions is remarkable
he goes on to add:
- The hatred of the radicals existed before Iraq was an issue. And it will exist after Iraq is no longer an excuse.
forgive me if i'm wrong--and shut the hell up with your opposition if i'm right, of course--but if the hatred will exist after, then... well, why the fuck are we bothering? people hate us, they always will hate us, so let's go overthrow a nation just for the hell of it and not for any clear resolution?
-
"Like the ideology of communism, our new enemy teaches that innocent individuals can be sacrificed to serve a political vision. And this explains their cold-blooded contempt for human life."
so, let's kill them all already, get that "complete victory" and bathe in their blood before they bathe in ours
fuck.
no, seriously, go fuck, a lot, cause we might all be dead soon anyway. might as well enjoy what we've got before bush and his new world order cronies force armageddon, if for no other reason, simply to prove they were right all along
